Both are refurbished to a very high standard, the holiday properties retains much character and charm, with oak floors and panelled walls. They make an ideal location for weekend celebrations, those who enjoy walking, cycling, golf, fishing, horse riding or simply relaxing. Etherley dene farm is located in bishop auckland, which has been the official residence of the bishops of durham since the 12th century. The town provides many interesting attractions, including auckland castle with its splendid marble and limestone chapel and stained-glass windows that relate to stories of early christian saints. At bishops park, an 18th-century deer house survives, and visitors can follow the mile-long lane that leads to the remains of binchester roman fort. Fifteen miles south-west of bishop auckland is barnard castle. There is also the bowes museum to visit, which is housed in a grand french-style chateau and provides a wide collection consisting of furniture, paintings, tapestries and ceramics.
